Keeping It Real: Purpose

Keeping it real- Purpose: It is not about you

Ever asked the questions: who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? If not you, I am sure many around you have. Contrary to current trends, I have discovered biblically (the true north) that the answer is not found within, but above. IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU. In the best seller Purpose Driven Life, Author Rick Warren writes the following: The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfilment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It’s far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose.

We read in Jeremiah 29: 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. And the Psalter sates; Ps 37: 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. God, not man dictates our future. Aligning with His purpose (Thy will be done) is discovering the joy of a fulfilled life

Making it relevant:

From the book a Purpose Driven Life, pastor Rick Warren challenges us in these 5 areas. Spend some time and reflect upon the following:

  • We were planned for God’s pleasure – so your first purpose is to offer real worship.
  • We were formed for God’s family – so your second purpose is to enjoy real fellowship.
  • We were created to become like Christ, – so your third purpose is to learn real discipleship.
  • We were shaped for serving God – so your fourth purpose is to practice real ministry.
  • We were made for a mission – so your fifth purpose is to live out real evangelism

Journal your answers and in 4 weeks go over them and see what progress you are making in discovering his purpose for your life

In and for Christ
