Keeping It Real – Great Commandment Pt.1

Keeping it Real – Great Commandment
Part 1 Love Jesus with all your heart

Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.” (Mt. 22:37-38)

• We are to engage our emotions in our love for God. God wants more than dutiful service. Our love for God touches our emotions without succumbing to emotionalism. We have a significant role in determining how our emotions develop over time. We can cultivate greater affections for God by setting our heart to grow in this sphere
• It is to love Him with our first love ( Rev 2:4). It is a mature love that bypasses all other loves.
• Our emotions are a very important and powerful part of our life. Thus, God wants to be loved from this part of our life. The heart must be kept focused and clean with diligence. We keep our heart by refusing to allow our emotions to be inappropriately connected to money, positions of honor, wrong relationships, sinful addictions, bitterness, offenses, etc.
• Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. (Prov. 4:23)
• To love Jesus 100% is to make Him the Only Lord and King of your heart. To live, love and lead for him alone.

Making it relevant:
1. Do I really know (revelation) how much Jesus loves me (John 3:16), and that I can only love me because Jesus loved me first?
2. What areas of my life do I need to allow Holy Spirit to look into and make adjustments so I can love Jesus 100%
3. What things may have stolen your first love for Jesus? Rev 2:4 states that the only way is to repent and put Jesus in His rightful place.
4. If this area does not come “naturally” to you as perhaps one of the other 3, ask the Holy Spirit to help you grow.
